I’m in and out of the studio a lot these days and loving every creative second of it! Here are some behind the scenes stories about the new material we’ve recorded.
Mary, Did You Know? This is an amazing song and when I learned that the guys at Firestone wanted me to cover it, I was a little nervous. The great Kathy Mattea’s version instantly popped into my head. She found this song and had a huge hit with it. Oddly enough, and by total coincidence I found myself at her home studio recording this song with Writer/Producer/Grammy winner, Jon Vezner, umm… Kathy’s husband!!! (Holy cow) A little intimidating to say the least! I was in Nashville for only a few short days and we had to pull this song off quickly to meet our deadline and ya know what… I believe we did. I’m very proud of Jon and the work we did together. To top if off, Miss Kathy Mattea came down stairs and sat in to hear a rough version of it. I’ll never forget watching her listen to HER song and hearing her say, “That is just lovely.” What a thrill. Jon and I will be working together soon which I’m so excited about, the man is brilliant. I hope you enjoy this song as much as I did creating it.
Star Spangled Banner: I’ve had the honor of singing this song many times for various events. My favorite place I sang it was at the Cow Palace in Sacramento for the National Rodeo with Charlie Daniels – twice for about 20,000 people. With both my grandfathers serving in war and my great grandfather receiving a Purple Heart medal, I certainly don’t take these words lightly. Thanks to the radio stations that play it!!!
